The Skin Fade, Done Right in Flemington

A skin fade is unforgiving. There is no length to hide a blend that wanders, which is why the service lives or dies on the barber's hand. Matthew Paul has cut fades in Flemington long enough that a bald-to-blend gradient is routine work rather than a gamble.

Every fade is $25, takes about 30 minutes, and finishes with a razor line-up and a styled top — the technique his father and grandfather passed down, updated for the cuts men actually ask for now.

Bald to blend, no lines

The fade starts at bare skin and steps up through each clipper guard until it disappears into the length on top. No hard band, no shelf where the blend should be.

Razor line-up included

The hairline and temples get a straight-razor edge-up, so the cut reads sharp from the front, not just from the side.

Styled before you leave

Matthew finishes with product and shows you how much to use at home, so day three looks like day one instead of a hedge.

Low, mid or high fade?

A low fade starts just above the ear and keeps the look conservative enough for an office. A mid fade is the Flemington default — balanced, visible from across the room, and easy to keep. A high fade takes the blend up toward the crown for maximum contrast. Tell Matthew which you want, or describe how bold you want the finish and let him pick the height for your head shape.

How long does a skin fade last?

About two weeks before the blend starts to blur, which is why most fade clients book every two to three weeks. If you want the edges crisp for a specific date — a wedding, a photo, a first day — book three or four days ahead rather than the morning of.

Skin fade or taper?

A taper only takes the sideburns and neckline short and leaves the length above them intact, so it grows out quietly. A skin fade goes to bare skin and climbs higher. If you are unsure, book the fade and Matthew will tell you honestly whether your growth pattern will hold it.
